Unbeautiful-scape 

 

The person was walking along the path of their memory. 

I wanted to follow their shadow.

 

The person’s footprints made a path in the landscape in which they were walking. It was silent. Occasionally, a low whistle could be heard over the person’s shoulder. Lingers in one spot for a prolonged time and sometimes passes by in hurried steps. I start following the person again, gazing from behind.

 

The appearance of this person from behind cannot be embellished with an expression like that with a face. It simply exists earnestly, without embellishment. To look at someone from behind means that one is gazing at the same direction as the other. 

As I prepared for this exhibit, I wanted to look back at the journey of my life as if gazing at someone from behind.

Marcel Proust who wrote, “In Search of Lost Time”, claimed, “The true discovery in traveling lies not in seeing new sights but in gaining new perspective.” Will I be able to gain new perspective of which I had not known through this series of works?   

 

The 200 small canvases are the spokesmen of my each different past ten or so years.
Some portray the past as is and others are partial magnifications or replacements with different colors.
Following my memories...
In search of roads I have visited in the past...
I create stories anew along those roads. 
My journey has been full of regret and repentance for my imperfections due to clumsy and bumbling ways. Now I make footprints once more one after the other.
For my new journey.
